Project Description
This interior house painting project took place in Lockport, IL, where our team at Powers Painting & Decorating was hired to complete an extensive five-day transformation in a newly built home. The property—situated on a generous 12.05-acre lot—was a big step up for a returning client and their growing family. They were looking for a fresh, tailored interior that reflected their style and the modern look of their new space.
The project involved spraying the ceiling in the back room, painting an accent feature wall, and updating all basement walls, including two rooms, a main open space, and a bathroom. We also refinished interior trim throughout the basement, including the baseboards, five doors and their frames, and all window trim. Given the scale of the job, the pricing was tailored to account for the high-end finishes, extensive prep, and custom color matches the client desired. The use of Sherwin-Williams Emerald® Designer Edition™ paints ensured a durable, luxurious result across the board.
Background/Story:
This wasn’t our first time working with this client. Having trusted Powers Painting & Decorating with prior projects, they reached out again for help with their new home—an exciting move that came with the challenge of making a big space feel comfortable and personalized. While the house itself was new, it needed warmth and definition.
The client’s main pain point was that, despite the modern structure, the interior felt a bit too sterile and blank. They wanted their basement, especially, to reflect a finished, welcoming space where the family could relax, entertain, and grow. They envisioned a sleek but cozy palette, some bold accents, and clean trim work that matched the home’s architectural quality.
Their journey started with a detailed consultation where we walked them through colors, finishes, and application techniques. We listened closely to their vision and collaborated on a scope that balanced style, durability, and ease of maintenance. They were particularly excited to incorporate bold elements like a black-sprayed ceiling and a moody accent wall, which we knew would add incredible visual interest to their new living space.

Results:
The finished result was a stunning transformation that exceeded expectations. The black-sprayed ceiling created a moody, cinematic vibe in the back room—instantly setting it apart. The feature wall brought energy and focus to the main basement area, while the clean, crisp lines on the trim elevated the space’s architecture.
The newly painted walls in calming grays and modern neutrals added depth and cohesion throughout the basement, making it feel less like an unfinished area and more like an extension of the home’s core living space. Every detail—from the smooth baseboards to the neatly painted door frames—contributed to a polished, high-end look.
The homeowner was thrilled. They told us the space finally felt like “home” and were especially impressed with our team’s efficiency, cleanliness, and respect for their new property.
